In Portuguese, Cinco Quinta means “Five Estates,” which is appropriate for this winery as grapes for their wines are sourced from five family-owned vineyard properties all located near the city of Vizela. In 1990, José Borges built the Cinco Quintas winery and produced a small quantity of his wines. The freshness comes from the characteristics of the grapes, the granite soils, but also from the mild temperatures due to the moderate influence of the Atlantic Ocean. In 2014 Cinco Quintas launched the “Avicella” line of Vinho Verde wines, balancing the winemaking traditions of their ancestors with modern winemaking technology and methods. The Vinho Verde D.O.C. Rosé is made from three Portuguese grape varietals: Padeiro, Espadiero, and Vinhão. The grapes come from estate vineyards in the town of Vizela in the Vinho Verde wine region.
