  • Apricot
  • Fresh sage leaves

Bagrina is an old Balkan white wine variety (with actual pink berry color) which is almost forgotten today. It’s usually planted alongside other varieties as it has female flowers only. It’s a rare find, the monovarietal Bagrina and this wine is the most expressive wine of this variety that Matalj have made so far. The result came as a reward for many years of work on the variety and detailed selection of grapes, both in the vineyard and in processing. Vionograd Bukovo showed all its strength in this harvest, giving us concentrated, perfectly ripe grapes. Bagrina is characterized by aromas of apricot, fresh quince, hay, wildflowers and herbs such as rosemary, sage and chamomile. It is moderately full-bodied, juicy, with recognizable minerality. This mineral character, which causes a pleasant feeling of tension in the mouth, gives the wine dynamism and makes it unique and very exciting.

Matalj Winery is founded on the basis of a long-standing tradition of growing grapevine in the Negotin Krajina in Serbia, aiming to continue producing top-quality wines with the seal of the climate. The Mladenović-Matalj family has been engaged in the production of premium grapes and wines for decades, and since 2007, the project for the reconstruction of old vineyards and expansion of the basement capacity has begun. Matalj philosophy in wine production is to simply preserve the grape quality of the wine achieved in vineyards. Currently, Matalj Winery is processing its 20 ha of wine-growing within the three vineyards: Kremen, Terasa, and Bukovo. The new modern basement at the Bukovo location in the vineyard itself can process and produce 200.000 l of the best quality wine.
