Almásy: Wine Without Borders reaches back into the history of the noble Hungarian family Almásy. The collection reimagines the wine cellar that might have greeted guests to Bernstein Castle had the territory never been divided. It includes regional classics like bright, bracing Grüner Veltliner and juicy Zweigelt, but also historic sites and varieties too long overlooked, made with partners who share our goal of revitalizing this heritage. Each wine is named according to where it stands relative to Bernstein Castle, the symbol of this project to rebind broken ties. Furmint, Hárslevelü, and Muscat are the main varieties, that are employed for the sweet Hungarian Tokaj. This world-famous sweet, topaz-colored wine is known throughout the English-speaking world as Tokay.

The original meaning of the Hungarian word aszú was “dried”, but the term aszú came to be associated with the type of wine made with botrytized grapes. Toffee, powdery florals, walnut, apricot, mandarin rind, and champagne toastiness. Exotic, cedary lift with bright, pure razor-like acidity cutting through the waxy middle.
